Ultra Electronics Maritime Systems (UEMS) is based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and is a division of Ultra Electronics Canada Defence Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of Ultra Electronics Holdings UK plc.
Established in 1947, Maritime Systems had its origins in the development and manufacture of sonobuoys for antisubmarine warfare use. The Company has produced more than two million units in nine different models for military users worldwide.
More recently, Ultra Electronics Maritime Systems has expanded into the supply of sophisticated Command and Control systems for critical infrastructure security applications and real-time situational awareness software that is employed as a multi-agency emergency response and planning tool by first responders, emergency management personnel, local authorities and law enforcement professionals throughout the world.
Maritime Systems has extensive expertise in naval sonar systems and is Canada's designated centre of excellence for military towed arrays. In addition to supplying passive arrays for Canada's Victoria class submarines, Maritime Systems has also developed active-passive and directional systems for use in complex antisubmarine warfare roles on warships. Maritime Systems advanced digital telemetry towed array is employed on the UK Royal Navy's Surface Torpedo Defence System.
