Security & Surveillance

screen_shotsThe defense and security of maritime interests has traditionally occurred offshore with little emphasis upon the littoral zone or land-sea interface. A terrorist attack by definition is designed to inject fear into the heart of the population and will occur in and around areas of maximum density. In addition to the terrorist threat, a natural disaster such as the Boxing Day Tsunami of 2004 also highlights the vulnerability of coastal areas and reinforces the need for a comprehensive management tool. Any system is dependent upon the quality and relevance of the information that is fed in, and UEMS have defined a comprehensive range of inputs to include the following:

  • Radar surveillance and tracking - coastal, offshore, ports and harbours
  • Automatic Identification Systems (AIS)Global Positioning Systems (GPS)
  • Electro-optical inputs (smart cameras/surveillance)
  • Underwater acoustic sensors
  • Satellite imagery
  • Geo-spatial/Historical data

UEMS strength lies in the ability to process the various inputs and fuse this information to provide the user with a coordinated picture of the maritime environment. This information can be shared amongst all stakeholders in real time to allow effective planning and reaction to perceived or actual threats as a result of terrorist activity or in response to a natural event.

Ultra Electronics Maritime Domain Awareness - Core Competencies:

  • Data fusion
  • Database design
  • Satellite positioning
  • Communications
  • PC radar and communication systems
  • Software design and development
  • Electronic charts, maps and imagery

Ultra Electronics Command and Control offering is well proven in an operational context with live installations employed throughout the world. The system presents the relevant information in a clear format that can be understood and acted upon by the operator.

The core component of the Ultra Electronics application is our C2DB Command and Control software which incorporates a highly developed GIS engine that delivers a geographical representation of the operational area of interest and displays tracks from the various sensory equipment indicating the precise location of all targets, assets and third parties within range. The system includes a sophisticated graphical mission planning toolkit allowing users to input and transmit routes, protected points, boundaries and areas of danger as well as the ability to set audible and visual alarms according to user defined parameters.
